Fax Definition

Fax machines are interrelated by telephone lines. The facsimile of the written information is transmitted to the addressee and it is simultaneously reproduced on paper automatically in the receiving machine.
Written information or message is sent from one place to another place situated inside the country or outside the country by means of fax at an exceptionally high speed.
Now it is the quickest form of communicating a message in the written form. Messages can also be sent to foreign countries through ISD. In current times, telegrams are sometimes sent through fax machines.
Fax is the telephonic transmission of scanned printed material (text or images) usually to a telephone number associated with a printer or other output device.
The main document is scanned with a fax machine that treats the contents as a single fixed graphic image, converting it into a bit map.
In this digital form, the data is exchanged as electrical signals through the telephone. The receiving fax machine reconverts the coded image and prints a paper copy of the document.
Almost all modems are capable of sending and receiving fax data. Fax software generates fax signals directly from disk files or the screen. Faxing a message online works well if the recipient wants only to read the message.
Advantages of Fax
Advantages of the fax are the following:
1. Speedy Transmission: Fax enables transmission of the message, data, diagram, sketches, and drawing with exceptionally high speed.
2. Accuracy of Information: It helps to send written information to any place within or outside the country accurately.
3. Legal value: Fax provides a written record of the transmitted message and it can be used as a document in a court of law.
4. Overcoming barrier: Fax can be sent to any point where there is the availability of the telecommunication system. There is no hassle to carry the document physically.
5. Confirmation of Receiving: Fax provides confirmation for the data or information received by the user.
Disadvantages of Fax
Fax has the following limitations.
1. Less Privacy: Fax has less privacy as the transmitted data can be handled by anyone who is beside the fax machine.
2. Hazy information: Fax may send hazy information due to a problem with the machine and therefore the purpose of the fastest delivery will be unsuccessful.
3. Dependency on the telephonic system: Fax uses the telephonic system to transmit data and if such a system is down then the sending of data and information face problems.
